Method Overview:
1. Remove the
uncapped swab and tube carefully from the pouch leaving the capped swab shaft
untouched. Taking care (hygienically), wet the uncapped swab in the PSD diluent
held in the included tube.
2. At a selected
carcass-sampling site, press a template hard onto the surface (TS/15-T40).
3. Rub the swab
over the whole area using pressure, moving in at least two directions, e.g.
firstly horizontally and then vertically, at least 10 times in each direction.
4. Place the
first 25-45mm of the used swab into the diluent tube and bend the swab towards
90¡Æ until it breaks (so the bacteria off the top of the shaft from holding are
not included in the sample).
5. Then using the dry
capped swab, sample the same area again, using the same technique from step 3
to absorb any liquid remaining on the surface from the initial wet swab (as per
step 1). Once second sampling is complete, place this swab into the same tube
of diluent and use the cap to seal for transport. |
